Keyword Rank Checker
Check a list of keywords in one pass and read the spread across them, which terms carry you and which ones you are absent for.

- ✓ Unpersonalised results

- ✓ Spread, not just an average
Businesses are rarely uniformly strong or weak. They are strong on two or three terms and effectively invisible on the rest, and an average across a keyword list conceals exactly that. Checking terms together is useful because it makes the variance visible, which is the part worth acting on.
Variance made visible
The spread between your best and worst term is more informative than either alone.
Terms read separately
Keywords move independently, so blending them hides whichever one is actually changing.
A fixed list to repeat
The same terms checked the same way is what turns readings into a series.

Read the spread, not the average
If you rank third for two terms and nowhere for nine, the average is meaningless and the finding is the nine. A blended figure across a keyword list is a reporting convenience that discards the information you would act on. Look at the distribution across terms before looking at any summary of it.
Choosing which terms to track
Include the terms that produce enquiries rather than the ones with the largest volume. A low volume phrase with clear buying intent beats a broad research term. A short list you will actually revisit beats a long one nobody opens twice.
Why the list has to stay fixed
Adding or removing terms partway through breaks the comparison. The chart still draws, which is what makes this mistake easy to miss, but the second reading is of a different keyword set and cannot be compared with the first.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many keywords should I track?
Three to five that produce enquiries. A list of twenty produces a series nobody reviews, which is the same as tracking none.
Should I average my positions?
Only for reporting. The average discards the spread, and the spread is where the decisions come from.
Can I add terms later?
You can, and the new term starts its own series from that date. The existing ones stay comparable only if you leave them alone.
Why do terms move independently?
They have different competition, different intent and different result layouts. Expecting them to move together is the underlying error.
Is one sweep useful?
As a description of one moment, yes. As evidence that something changed, no, that needs the same sweep repeated.
A list of points is not a distribution
Checking many terms from one coordinate still leaves you with single observations. Measuring each term across a grid shows where each one holds and where it fails, which is a different and considerably more useful picture.

Searching for your own terms in your own browser is the least reliable check available. Your history, your account and your position all shape what comes back, and none of that applies to a new customer.
A clean check from a set location gives you what somebody there would actually see. That is usually less flattering, and it is the number worth tracking.
How to use it
- Enter the keyword and the site to check.
- Set the location to where your customers actually are.
- Read the surrounding results, not just your position.
- Recheck on a schedule rather than whenever you feel anxious.
Why it matters
Rankings mean little as a single reading. Checked consistently from the same place over time they show direction, and direction is the only part you can act on.
Questions people ask
Why is my position different from what I see?
Your own results are personalised by history and location. A clean check removes both.
How often should I check?
Monthly for most local businesses. Daily movement is normal and reacting to it causes more problems than it solves.
What if I rank differently across town?
That is expected in local search. It is why a single point reading is worth less than a map.
